Taliban Increases Market Oversight in Nine Provinces Ahead of Eid

The Taliban’s Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has announced that, coinciding with the upcoming Eid holiday, its inspectors have intensified monitoring of markets in nine provinces across the country.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, the goal of ramping up oversight is to prevent hoarding of commercial goods, curb violations, and ensure transparency in market transactions. The inspections cover the provinces of Panjshir, Parwan, Maidan Wardak, Zabul, Takhar, Baghlan, Logar, Balkh, and Kabul.
The ministry did not provide further details on how the monitoring is conducted or the practical outcomes achieved. This announcement comes amid usual concerns ahead of Eid regarding price hikes and shortages of essential items for residents.
In recent years, the role and authority of this ministry in various social and economic domains have been a subject of debate. Despite the declared increase in oversight, many residents continue to emphasize that managing prices and preventing hoarding require transparent and accountable mechanisms to alleviate economic pressure on the population.
