Kenya’s Prime Minister Warns of Economic Fallout in Africa from West Asia Conflict

Musalya Mudavadi, Kenya’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, has warned that the ongoing war in West Asia will have widespread negative economic consequences for African countries. He made these remarks at a think tank, emphasizing the need for regional countries to prepare to mitigate the impacts of global crises.

According to him, the current crisis in West Asia demonstrates that African nations must diversify their supply chains and accelerate the full implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement. Mudavadi stressed that such measures could reduce economic dependency and enhance the resilience of African economies against external shocks.

The Kenyan Prime Minister also underscored the urgency of accelerating the transition to renewable energy. He stated that if the majority of Africa’s energy needs were met by clean sources such as solar, geothermal, and hydro energy, the destabilizing impact of the West Asia crisis would not be as pronounced.

In another part of his speech, Mudavadi added that transactional approaches and militarism at the global level have overshadowed the traditional principles of diplomacy and peaceful coexistence. He believes that fundamental values of international relations, including human rights and a rules-based global order, are facing serious challenges.
