Pakistani Taliban Set Up Checkpoint in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Near Peshawar

Security sources in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have confirmed the establishment of a checkpoint by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the Bara area of Khyber District, near the city of Peshawar.

Based on a widely circulated video on social media, dozens of armed individuals affiliated with the TTP gathered in broad daylight at one location, stopping and searching civilian vehicles. This incident has raised concerns about the extent of control Pakistan’s security forces maintain over the area.

Security officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirmed the event and stated that the armed men left the site shortly after. However, the establishment of such a checkpoint by an insurgent group indicates ongoing security challenges in the tribal areas near the Afghan border.

The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, which has conducted armed operations against the Pakistani government for years, has previously claimed responsibility for attacks and unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security experts warn that the group’s overt presence and setting up of checkpoints may signal increased activity in the region.
