EU Sends 270 Tons of Food Aid to Kabul to Support Malnourished Children

The Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid department of the European Union has announced the delivery of three shipments of food aid to Kabul, totaling 270 tons of nutritious food. These supplies are intended to support children suffering from malnutrition in Afghanistan.

According to the agency, the shipments include 20,000 ready-to-eat food packages provided by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the treatment of malnourished children. These packages are specially designed to treat acute malnutrition in children.

UNICEF stated that last year it treated 610,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition in Afghanistan. The organization added that this year it aims to expand its support to cover one million children with treatment and nutrition programs.

Afghanistan has faced a widespread humanitarian and economic crisis in recent years, a situation that has worsened since the Taliban’s return to power, increasing poverty and food insecurity. International agencies have repeatedly warned that restrictions and weak economic management have made it difficult for millions of the country’s residents to access food and health services.

In such circumstances, international humanitarian aid remains one of the primary sources for meeting the basic needs of vulnerable families across various regions of the country.
