Rising Tensions on Afghanistan-Pakistan Border: Artillery Attacks Target Villages in Khost Province

Hamdullah Fetrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban administration, announced that Pakistani forces have launched artillery and mortar attacks on seven villages in Zazi Maidan district of Khost province. According to him, at least two civilians were injured, and several local homes along with a mosque were damaged due to these attacks.

Fetrat wrote on X on Tuesday, March 9, that Pakistan continues to commit what he described as “war crimes” on Afghan soil. He did not provide further details regarding the exact timing or the extent of the damage.

Zazi Maidan district is a border area in Khost province adjacent to Pakistan, a region that has experienced tensions and border clashes in recent years. The increase in such incidents has heightened concerns among local residents and brought renewed attention to the issue of securing border areas.

Tensions between the two sides have escalated in recent days, with reports of casualties and displacement among civilians. Despite the Taliban administration’s claims of ensuring overall security, the ongoing cross-border attacks indicate that residents of these areas remain under threat.

These attacks have drawn widespread reactions, with several countries and international organizations urging the involved parties to end the clashes as soon as possible to prevent further harm to civilians.
