Afghanistan Central Bank Discusses Banking Capacity Building with UNAMA and UNDP

The Central Bank of Afghanistan announced that Sadikullah Khalid, its First Deputy, held a meeting with Indrika Ratwatte, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), and Stephen Rodriguez, Programme Manager of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to discuss establishing a joint framework for the banking and financial sector.
According to a statement released by the Central Bank, the purpose of this meeting was to coordinate the implementation of a program aimed at systematically advancing capacity building within the country’s banking system. The framework is intended to strengthen technical cooperation.
The information provided indicates that through this joint mechanism, technical assistance and activities from international and domestic institutions will be consolidated within a clear structure to prevent the fragmentation of programs.
UNAMA and UNDP are among the active UN bodies in Afghanistan, cooperating on technical and developmental matters. Given the existing challenges within the banking system under Taliban administration, transparency regarding the utilization of technical assistance and the practical achievements of this framework is expected to be communicated clearly to the public.
