Malaysian Red Crescent Urges Protection of Civilians Amid Middle East and South Asia Conflicts

The Malaysian Red Crescent has called on all parties involved in the conflicts in the Middle East and tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan to adhere to international humanitarian laws and protect civilians and aid workers. The organization warned that the expansion of military operations could seriously worsen the security and humanitarian situation for vulnerable communities.
In its statement, the organization said that the escalating clashes pose a direct threat to civilians. According to the Malaysian Red Crescent, recent warnings from the International Committee of the Red Cross also indicate that intensifying wars present serious dangers to non-combatants.
The organization stressed that all parties are obliged to act in accordance with the principles and rules of international humanitarian law and to protect civilians, medical personnel, and critical infrastructure such as hospitals and other public facilities. It also emphasized the importance of respecting the symbols of the Red Cross and Red Crescent under all circumstances.
The Malaysian Red Crescent added that Red Cross and Red Crescent teams will continue to provide humanitarian services if access to affected areas is possible. These services include urgent medical aid and strengthening the preparedness of communities to cope with crises.
Meanwhile, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has announced cooperation with national organizations in the region to coordinate relief efforts and assess immediate needs.
The head of the Malaysian Red Crescent also highlighted the necessity of facilitating the unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid, stating that all parties should allow relief teams to provide emergency assistance to those affected without interference.
