Karzai Urges Taliban to Reopen Schools and Universities for Girls

Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, has called on the Taliban administration to reopen schools and universities for girls and women, and to facilitate their return to work, on the occasion of International Women’s Solidarity Day. He emphasized that the future and progress of the country is impossible without the active participation of women in various fields.

On Sunday, March 7, Karzai stated in a message that the development and advancement of Afghanistan depend on the participation of all citizens, especially women, in education, social, and economic sectors. According to him, women have played a prominent and influential role in building Afghan society throughout different periods of history.

The former president added, “Conditions must be created for women to return to work and have an active presence in society so that our beloved country can achieve progress and prosperity relying on the talents and abilities of its own people, freeing itself from external dependence.”

While it has been several years since girls have been denied education beyond the sixth grade and universities remain closed to them, domestic and international calls to lift these restrictions continue. Critics argue that this ongoing situation not only violates the fundamental rights of women but also poses a serious challenge to the country’s future development.
