ILO Affirms Support for Afghan Women’s Rights on International Women’s Day

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has declared its support for the rights of Afghan women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring their access to education and employment opportunities. In a statement posted on its X (formerly Twitter) page, the agency emphasized the empowerment of women in Afghanistan’s education and employment sectors.
The message highlighted that providing educational and job opportunities for women is a fundamental part of the ILO’s commitments in Afghanistan. The organization also underscored the critical role of education and employment in strengthening women’s social and economic status.
This announcement comes amid widespread restrictions imposed on women’s education and work in many parts of the country following the Taliban’s return to power. These limitations have sparked extensive domestic and international reactions, raising increasing concerns about the future of Afghan women.
International bodies have repeatedly stressed that sustainable development and economic improvement in Afghanistan are impossible without the active and equal participation of women in educational and professional fields.
