Imran Wali Khan Warns Pakistan’s Dual Policy on Terrorism is Harmful

Imran Wali Khan, leader of the Awami National Party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has once again criticized Pakistan’s past and current policies towards terrorism, warning that the continuation of a dual approach will lead to even heavier consequences. He stressed that unless a clear and uncompromising stance against terrorism is adopted, history will judge the actions of all parties.

Wali Khan stated that from 2021 to 2026, continuous warnings were given against formulating policies based on hopes of a “friendly government” coming to power in Afghanistan. He said experience has shown that such calculations have not only failed to bring security but have also complicated the situation further.

He emphasized, “A terrorist never becomes a friend; a terrorist is only a terrorist.” According to him, elements previously referred to as “strategic depth” or “friends” have today become targets of military operations, and this shift is the result of unstable past policies.

The Awami National Party leader added that policies based on ideological affiliations and short-term interests have caused the most damage to the people and the state of Pakistan. He said these approaches have resulted in the displacement of many residents, damaged markets, and youth living amidst insecurity and uncertainty.

Wali Khan underscored that the responsibility of the Pakistani government is not merely to issue statements, but to adopt firm and consistent principles against terrorism. He noted that terrorists have neither religion nor ethnicity; therefore, the fight against terrorism must be unconditional, resolute, and free from any concessions.
