11 Acres of Opium Poppy Fields Eradicated in Chahar Burjak, Nimroz Province

Local officials in Chahar Burjak district of Nimroz province have announced the destruction and clearance of 11 acres of land cultivated with opium poppy in the district.

Mawlavi Mahmoud Saeed, the district governor of Chahar Burjak, said that personnel from the Counter-Narcotics Department affiliated with the district’s police command today (Thursday) eradicated the opium poppy fields in the Qala-e-Fath area.

According to him, this action was carried out as part of the campaign to eliminate opium poppy cultivation, and the process will continue.

Nimroz province, located in the southwest of the country, has areas where opium poppy cultivation has been prevalent. While the Taliban administration speaks of continuing this eradication campaign, some local residents have previously expressed concerns about the lack of alternative livelihoods and economic challenges following the ban on opium poppy cultivation. This issue highlights the need for transparent planning and practical support for farmers.
