Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Calls for Inclusive Delegation to Afghanistan
Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has called for sending an all-encompassing delegation from Pakistan to Afghanistan to engage in talks with Taliban authorities. He stated that this move could help improve security conditions and reduce tensions between the two sides.
Afridi made the remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of a project in Peshawar city. He emphasized that the delegation should include provincial and federal Pakistani officials, religious scholars, and tribal elders. According to him, the presence of diverse figures in the delegation would make the dialogue more effective.
He stressed that if such a delegation travels to Afghanistan, it could pave the way for greater mutual understanding between the two parties. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly claimed in recent years that armed groups launch attacks against Pakistan from Afghan soil.
In response, the Taliban administration has consistently denied these allegations, stating that Afghanistan is not responsible for Pakistan’s “security failures.” However, ongoing tensions and the lack of a transparent security cooperation mechanism between the two sides have raised questions about the Taliban’s commitment to preventing militant activities across the border.
