Former Pentagon Official Warns War with Iran Will Increase US Economic and Military Strain

Douglas Macgregor, a former advisor to the US Department of Defense (Pentagon), has stated that if conflicts with Iran continue, the United States may face extensive military and economic consequences and may ultimately be forced to withdraw from the Middle East. He described the situation as the beginning of a prolonged regional war, the impact of which would extend beyond the region.

In a media analysis, Macgregor said that the continuation of the war places heavy financial burdens on the US, and that the full extent of these pressures will take time to become clear. In his view, the longer the conflict persists, the greater the economic and military costs for Washington.

The former Pentagon official also claimed that some Gulf countries might take a stance against the US presence, which, according to him, could lead to a reduction in American influence in the region. Referring to developments in Iraq, he said that part of the political currents in that country are demanding the withdrawal of American forces.

Macgregor emphasized that if the war continues, the positions of the US and Israel will weaken, and Iran will have the ability to survive under these conditions. He described this process for Washington as “difficult.”

Meanwhile, recent attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, along with Tehran’s reciprocal responses, have heightened regional tensions. These developments have affected traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s key oil and gas transit routes, leading to increased energy prices in global markets. Some analysts have also warned that President Donald Trump’s decision to attack Iran could further deepen distrust within the country’s economy.
