WFP Warns of Worsening Food Crisis Amid Rising Violence in Afghanistan

The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that escalating violence along Afghanistan’s eastern, southern, and western borders has exacerbated the country’s humanitarian and food crisis. The organization emphasized that Afghanistan is currently experiencing one of the most severe food crises in the world.
John Aylett, the WFP representative in Afghanistan, stated that recent clashes have occurred in areas where residents were already living under critical conditions. According to him, the continuing insecurity has placed additional pressure on families struggling to meet their basic needs.
According to the information provided, around 20,000 people have been displaced due to airstrikes by Pakistan on the eastern and southern borders. These displaced individuals urgently require shelter, food, and essential services.
The WFP representative also highlighted that more than 17 million people in Afghanistan are in need of food assistance. While aid organizations stress the necessity of safe and unhindered access to those affected, it is expected that the Taliban administration will facilitate transparent and effective distribution of aid and fulfill its responsibility seriously to alleviate the suffering of the population.
