Two U.S. Senators Criticize War with Iran, Citing Lack of Clarity and Escalation Risks

Elizabeth Warren, a Democratic U.S. Senator, spoke out after attending a classified briefing on Iran, describing the situation regarding war with the country as “far more concerning than the public perception,” and criticized President Donald Trump’s administration for lacking a clear plan on the matter.

Warren stated that she had previously been worried about developments related to Iran, but her concerns have grown after receiving new information in the closed session. According to her, the Trump administration has yet to provide a convincing explanation regarding the objectives and course of this conflict.

The senator also claimed that military action against Iran was based on false premises and, in her view, lacks clear legal justification. She added that she believes there is no immediate threat against the United States and that the president has not offered a clear rationale for initiating this war.

Expressing regret over the human toll of the conflict, Warren said she will continue efforts to bring the war to an end.

Meanwhile, The New York Times reported that Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader, also voiced deep concerns about the potential expansion of the war following a classified meeting with senior Trump administration officials concerning military operations in Iran.

Schumer described the behind-closed-doors session as “unsatisfactory,” noting that U.S. government officials provided inconsistent responses regarding the president’s decision to strike Iran. He called for greater transparency on the objectives and consequences of this military action.
