Taliban Foreign Minister Meets Chinese Ambassador to Discuss Tensions with Pakistan

Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban administration’s foreign minister, met with Jiaw Xing, the Chinese ambassador in Kabul, to discuss recent military tensions between Taliban-controlled forces and Pakistan. On Wednesday, March 3rd, the Taliban Foreign Ministry stated that during the meeting, Pakistan’s attacks were described as violations of Afghanistan’s territorial integrity.
According to the ministry’s statement, Muttaqi emphasized that Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are “fundamental principles” whose respect is crucial for regional stability and building trust among countries. He added that maintaining borders and preventing the escalation of tensions are mutual responsibilities of neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, the Chinese ambassador stressed the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomatic engagement. He noted that continued instability benefits none of the parties and political channels should be used to deescalate tensions.
Jiaw Xing also mentioned that some “external elements” are attempting to undermine the region’s stability and progress, although no further details were provided.
Border tensions between the Taliban administration and Pakistan persist amid the absence of a clear and accountable mechanism to manage these disputes, raising concerns about their security implications for residents of border areas. Experts have repeatedly warned that ongoing intermittent conflicts could adversely affect the economic situation and the movement of people on both sides of the border.
