China Warns of Risk of Return to ‘Law of the Jungle’ in Global Order

Wang Yi, China’s Foreign Minister, warned that the international order established after World War II and the norms governing relations between countries have been seriously damaged, putting the world at risk of reverting to a “law of the jungle” scenario.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, in Beijing, stating that the simultaneous occurrence of profound changes and global turmoil has challenged the stability of the international system.
The Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized that Beijing and Moscow, as major powers and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, have the responsibility to implement genuine multilateralism and protect the UN-centered international order.
According to him, both sides must support the formation of a multipolar world and the establishment of a fairer and more rational global governance system; a path that China believes can prevent escalating instability.
Wang Yi also added that China is ready to work more closely with Russia to fully implement bilateral agreements, strengthen strategic communications, and deepen strategic coordination between the two countries in the new year.
