Over 3,600 Carats of Panjshir Emeralds Sold to Domestic Traders

Local officials in Panjshir have announced the sale of 3,657 carats of freshly mined emeralds from the province’s mines, valued at 58,050 US dollars, to domestic traders. This transaction took place in the presence of members of the Mine Oversight Committee.

Saifuddin Laton, spokesperson for the Panjshir governor, stated that this amount of emeralds was recently extracted from several mines across different areas of the province. According to him, the sale of these precious stones followed thorough inspection and specific procedures.

Panjshir is one of Afghanistan’s well-known provinces for emerald mining, with its mines considered an important source of revenue. However, in recent years, there have been ongoing concerns about the transparency of the extraction and sales processes under the Taliban’s administration, with citizens calling for accountable and transparent management of these national resources.
