Trump Praises Pakistan’s Airstrikes on Taliban as ‘Outstanding’ and Pledges Intervention

Donald Trump, President of the United States, described Pakistan’s airstrikes against the Taliban as “outstanding” and stated that he will intervene in the ongoing tensions between Islamabad and the Taliban. On Friday, February 26, in response to reporters’ questions about the clashes between the two sides, he praised Pakistan’s leaders.

Trump called Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, and Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff, “great leaders” and said he has very good relations with Pakistan. He added that he respects Pakistani officials and considers the country’s handling of the Taliban “outstanding.”

The US president emphasized: “I will intervene, but I get along very, very well with Pakistan. They have an excellent prime minister and an excellent general; two individuals whom I truly respect a lot.”

Meanwhile, the US State Department has also emphasized Pakistan’s right to defend itself. This comes amid rising tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, which has raised concerns among several regional countries and once again brought up questions about how the Taliban administration manages regional relations.
