Red Cross Expresses Deep Concern Over Escalating Conflict Between Afghanistan and Pakistan

Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has expressed deep concern over the significant increase in hostilities between Afghanistan and Pakistan. She highlighted that after decades of war and losing their loved ones, the people of the region are once again facing fresh violence.
She emphasized that civilians, the wounded, and those no longer participating in the fighting must be protected under all circumstances. According to her, delivering humanitarian aid to all victims and safeguarding hospitals and essential services are fundamental requirements of international humanitarian law.
The head of the Red Cross added that the organization, together with the Afghan and Pakistani Red Crescent societies, is preparing to support health centers on both sides of the border. She also called for adherence to the laws of war and prioritizing de-escalation to prevent further spreading of the crisis.
