Reconstruction of Water Canal in Mehtarlam Begins with 6 Million Afghanis Funding

Officials from the Taliban’s General Directorate of Works, Irrigation, and Payments in Laghman province have announced the start of reconstruction work on a water canal in the provincial capital, Mehtarlam. According to them, a budget of 6 million Afghanis has been allocated for this project.

The canal is located in the Sangtode area of Mehtarlam city, and the reconstruction process is financially supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Officials stated that the project aims to improve water management and strengthen local infrastructure.

Mehtarlam, the center of Laghman province in eastern Afghanistan, relies heavily on local canals for irrigation of agricultural lands and meeting residents’ water needs. It is expected that upon completion, this project will help reduce some of the challenges related to water transportation and regulation in this area.
