Taliban Authorities Report Return of 762 Afghan Families from Neighboring Countries
The Taliban administration has announced the return of 762 families, totaling 3,965 Afghan migrants, from neighboring countries back to Afghanistan. According to the administration, the majority of these individuals entered Afghanistan on Tuesday, July 14, via border crossings.
Hamdullah Fetrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban administration, stated in a press release that 647 families, comprising 3,466 individuals, entered through the Torkham border crossing in Nangarhar province. Torkham is considered one of the main transit routes between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
According to the press release, 70 families returned through the Spin Boldak border in Kandahar province, and 45 families from the Islam Qala border in Herat province. These border points are major crossings for migrants between Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran.
While the Taliban administration reports on this return process, the large-scale forced repatriation of migrants, especially from Pakistan, has created serious challenges in housing and employment sectors within the country. Many returning families face a shortage of shelter, job opportunities, and basic services.
At the same time, United Nations reports indicate that Afghanistan is experiencing one of the world’s deepest humanitarian crises. Under such conditions, the increasing number of returnees could place additional strain on limited resources and economic capacity – an issue that requires clear planning and accountability from the Taliban administration.
