CPJ Reports 129 Journalists Killed Worldwide in 2025, Marking Unprecedented Toll

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has reported that at least 129 journalists and media workers were killed worldwide in 2025 while performing their duties, marking an unprecedented number, according to the organization.
According to CPJ’s latest report, Israeli forces have been identified as responsible for two-thirds of the recorded cases. The CPJ emphasized that this number of casualties is the highest annual toll since it began documenting journalist deaths over three decades ago.
The report states that 2025 marks the second consecutive year that the number of journalist killings has set a new record. For the second year in a row, Israel has been identified as the party responsible for two-thirds of journalist death cases.
The Committee to Protect Journalists, an international organization advocating for press freedom, annually reviews the security situation of journalists worldwide. Its findings are regarded as a credible source for assessing freedom of expression and journalist safety.
