Taliban Administration Engages Uzbekistan in Talks to Boost Trade to $5 Billion

Nouruddin Azizi, Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce for the Taliban administration, announced that he held an online meeting with Jamshid Khodjaev, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, to discuss expanding trade relations between the two sides. According to him, both parties expressed readiness to increase trade exchanges up to five billion dollars.

Azizi stated that the discussions focused on developing economic cooperation and creating more opportunities for trade between Kabul and Tashkent. Uzbekistan, a neighboring country to the north of Afghanistan, has maintained its trade relations with Afghanistan in recent years.

Although the Taliban administration speaks of targeting a significant increase in trade volume, how to achieve this figure, existing obstacles in banking and transit sectors, as well as the issue of international recognition of the administration, are factors that affect the practical realization of such commitments. Economic experts consistently emphasize that political stability, regulatory transparency, and access to the international financial system are essential prerequisites for sustainable trade growth.

No further details have been released regarding a timeline or specific mechanisms to reach the $5 billion trade target.
