Taliban’s Economic Commission Approves 23 Draft Standards and Procedures for Quality Control

The Economic Commission of the Taliban administration has approved 23 drafts related to the Management of Standards and Quality in its recent session. The meeting was chaired by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs in the Taliban government.

According to a bulletin from the Management of Standards and Quality, the session reviewed 12 drafts of internal standards and 11 pilot procedures previously prepared by the department, all of which were ultimately endorsed by the Economic Commission.

The approved standards and procedures cover various sectors including construction materials, electrical and medical equipment, textile and leather industries, plastic products, as well as the food and agricultural products sectors.

The Management of Standards and Quality added that implementing these documents could strengthen the quality control system in the country and represents an important step towards standardizing domestic production. However, experts have consistently emphasized that the realization of such standards requires transparency in the implementation process, effective oversight, and enabling conditions for nationwide enforcement—a challenge that currently faces serious difficulties.
