Over 166,000 Returnees Registered for Employment with Taliban Administration

The Committee for Providing Job Opportunities for Returnees has announced that job placements have been facilitated for nearly 7,000 returnees, while more than 166,000 other returnees have been registered in the employment database. Hamdullah Fetrat, Deputy Spokesperson for the Taliban administration, raised this issue on Wednesday in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter).

According to him, the committee, in coordination with the Ministry of Migrants and Returnees Affairs and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, has provided technical and vocational training to 6,141 returnees across various provinces. He added that information on over 166,000 skilled and unskilled returnees has been shared with the General Directorate of Administrative Affairs of the Taliban administration to be hired whenever vacancies arise.

Based on these statements, a list of 2,000 returnees has been directly introduced to several Taliban administrative departments for recruitment, and 772 others have been employed in industrial parks through collaboration with the private sector. It was also mentioned that quotas have been allocated for returnees in the process of sending Afghan workers abroad.

These statistics come amid serious economic challenges faced by many returnees, including a lack of sustainable job opportunities and difficulties accessing basic services. So far, no clear details have been released regarding the distribution of these opportunities, the selection criteria, or oversight of the recruitment process. The Taliban administration is expected to enhance transparency to address these concerns.
