Taliban Administration Confirms TAPI Gas Pipeline Project to be Completed by End of 2026

The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has announced that the practical work on the TAPI gas pipeline project is progressing rapidly, with 97 kilometers of the pipeline route currently cleared. The ministry added that efforts continue to complete the first phase of the project by the end of 2026.

Meanwhile, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the former president of Turkmenistan, stated in an interview with an Arabic media outlet that completing the first phase of the TAPI project is one of Turkmenistan’s key priorities and is scheduled to be finalized by the end of this calendar year.

The TAPI project, which aims to transport gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India, is considered one of the largest regional energy projects. If fully implemented, it could significantly contribute to regional economic growth and create job opportunities in Afghanistan.

Despite the Taliban administration’s emphasis on progress, detailed information regarding the actual progress, financial resources, and technical challenges of the project has not been clearly disclosed. Economic experts consistently stress the need for transparency, securing the pipeline route, and professional management of such large-scale projects to ensure that the benefits genuinely reach the country’s residents.
