Russia Warns UK and France Over Plans to Arm Ukraine with Nuclear Weapons

Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service has announced that the United Kingdom and France are reportedly considering a plan to equip Ukraine with nuclear weapons, an action Moscow says could be viewed as a violation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The agency warned that such moves would pose serious security risks.

According to Russian media, the service claims that London and Paris have concluded that the current developments on the battlefield in the Ukraine war do not guarantee a military victory for Kyiv, prompting them to seek new deterrent options. As per the report, the two countries desire for Ukraine to be equipped with at least one nuclear bomb.

Meanwhile, it is said that Germany has opposed joining this plan. Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service alleges that the UK and France are aware that transferring such weapons could breach their international commitments under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and are therefore attempting to present this initiative as a proposal from Kyiv.

According to these claims, one of the options under consideration is the covert transfer of a small nuclear warhead, the “TN 75,” associated with the “M51.1” ballistic missile, which can be launched from a submarine. Moscow has described this plan as “very dangerous” and warned that such actions could escalate tensions in Europe and beyond.

So far, London, Paris, and Kyiv have not officially responded publicly to these allegations. The war in Ukraine, which began in 2022, remains one of Europe’s most complex security crises.
