Iran Offers to Mediate to Ease Tensions Between Pakistan and Taliban

Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has stated that Tehran remains ready to cooperate in reducing tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration. He emphasized that the continuation of these tensions could have consequences beyond the two parties involved.

On Monday, 23 February, in a press conference, Baqaei said that developments between Islamabad and the Taliban administration also affect regional countries, including Iran. According to him, instability in Iran’s neighborhood could result in security and economic repercussions.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has urged both sides to resolve their disputes through dialogue and negotiation. Tehran stressed that reducing tensions and responsibly managing relations would benefit regional stability.

This comes while Iran had previously hosted a regional meeting on Afghanistan aimed at easing tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration. The ongoing tensions between the two sides once again highlight the necessity of the Taliban administration’s responsible approach toward regional relations and border management.
