Iran’s Ambassador in Islamabad Calls for Immediate De-escalation Between Pakistan and Taliban

Reza Amiri-Moghaddam, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Islamabad, has called for an immediate reduction in tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration amid rising conflicts. He warned that continuing the war benefits no party. These remarks come after Pakistan launched airstrikes two nights ago targeting areas in Nangarhar, Khost, and Paktika provinces.

On Tuesday, February 23, Amiri-Moghaddam spoke at the Islamabad Strategic Studies Institute, stating that the common enemies of Iran and Pakistan are attempting to promote separatism in the region. He emphasized that instability could lead to the expansion of insecurity across the region.

According to the Iranian ambassador, cooperation and coordination between Tehran and Islamabad continue in regional and international forums, and the two countries remain in contact on various issues. Iran’s Foreign Ministry had previously announced its readiness to assist in reducing tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration.

The recent escalation in tensions coincides with challenges in the relationship between Pakistan and the Taliban administration over recent months. Some experts believe that the prolonged situation could negatively affect the security and lives of residents in border areas and requires responsible management from all parties involved.
