Former Afghan Minister Warns of ‘Badconduct’ Phenomenon Imported from Pakistan to Afghan Religious Schools

Mawlavi Mohammad Qasim Halimi, former Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs under the republic system, has stated that the phenomenon he terms ‘badconduct’ has been transferred from Pakistan to religious schools in Afghanistan and is now observed in some of these institutions. He emphasized that this situation has damaged the religious and scholarly credibility of the country’s religious schools.
In his recent remarks, Halimi said that such cases did not exist in Afghan religious schools in the past, but individuals educated in Pakistan have introduced this culture into the country. According to him, some Pakistani madrassas have become centers for promoting moral corruption and indecent behavior.
Halimi also harshly criticized several religious and political figures in Pakistan, including Mufti Mahmood, Sami-ul-Haq, and Fazlur Rehman, questioning their record. He claimed that these groups, under the name of Islam, have established regimes and schools whose main goal is the implementation of British laws and the spread of corruption.
Halimi further accused the Pakistani army and government of supporting these groups and exploiting religious institutions for their political purposes. He added that if this trend continues, it could pose a serious challenge to the standing of Afghanistan’s religious schools.
