Over 49 Tons of Smuggled Drugs Destroyed in Helmand Province

Officials from Helmand Customs Department have reported the seizure and destruction of over 49 tons of smuggled drugs in Lashkar Gah city. The illegal consignment was discovered and confiscated by customs employees, and subsequently destroyed in the Rig area of the provincial capital.

Mohammad Qasim Haqmal, the head of the department, stated that the shipment originated from Pakistan and was identified and seized during customs monitoring operations. He noted that the destruction process was carried out in the presence of officials.

He urged traders to refrain from importing illegal, low-quality, and smuggled goods and to comply with official customs procedures.

Meanwhile, health experts emphasize that drug smuggling seriously endangers public health and call on the Taliban administration to enhance transparent and continuous oversight of the pharmaceutical market alongside such publicized destruction efforts. The absence of an effective quality control system and organized import management remains a persistent challenge, frequently criticized by residents and health activists.
