Taliban Limits Pakistani Freight Truck Movement at Torkham Border Crossing

Local officials in Torkham have announced that, based on a new decision by the Taliban administration, Pakistani freight trucks carrying Afghan migrants’ goods are no longer permitted to move beyond the area of Amri Camp. This decision has been implemented immediately at the Torkham border crossing.
According to local authorities, the purpose of this measure is to prevent smuggling and to create job opportunities for Afghan freight truck drivers. They emphasized that henceforth, the transfer of goods from Pakistani trucks to Afghan trucks will take place within the designated area.
Reports indicate that around one thousand personnel have been appointed by the Taliban administration to oversee the transfer of goods from one truck to another. However, some drivers and returning families have expressed concerns that this process might cause delays in the transfer of goods and increase costs.
The Torkham border crossing is one of the most important border points between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and any change in the method of goods transfer and movement of freight trucks directly impacts returning migrants and trade activities along this route.
