World Food Programme Pledges Continued Support for Needy Afghan Families During Ramadan

The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that it will continue providing aid to needy families in Afghanistan during the month of Ramadan, in collaboration with its partners. On Wednesday, 18 February, the organization stated on its X page that the aim of this assistance is to help families secure food supplies throughout Ramadan.
The WFP expressed hope that Ramadan will bring a message of peace, reflection, and hope to the people of Afghanistan. As one of the major humanitarian agencies, the WFP has supplied a significant portion of emergency food aid across various regions of the country in recent years.
At the same time, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has emphasized the importance of solidarity, support for vulnerable groups, and the promotion of peace and unity in society on the occasion of Ramadan.
This comes as Afghanistan faces a deep economic crisis and a sharp decline in international aid following the Taliban’s return to power. Widespread restrictions, rising unemployment, and structural governance challenges have left millions struggling with food shortages, limited access to health services, and serious difficulties in securing livelihoods and housing—a situation that highlights the urgent need for sustained and effective humanitarian support.
