Over 11,500 Kilograms of Precious Stones Sold from Nuristan’s Mawi Mines

More than 11,500 kilograms of precious and semi-precious stones were extracted from the Mawi mines in the Duab district of Nuristan province and sold through an open bidding process for 113,569,000 Afghanis. Officials stated that this auction was held in the presence of domestic traders.
According to local authorities, out of the total amount, 11,356,000 Afghanis will be deposited into the government treasury. Additionally, 85 national traders participated in this bidding.
The extracted stones include kunzite, beryl, crystal, and garnet. Nuristan, known as a mountainous province with rich mineral reserves, is renowned for such natural resources.
Taliban administration officials say that legal extraction and transparent sale of mines can contribute to increased revenue and strengthen the local economy. However, economic experts consistently emphasize that mine management requires greater transparency, independent oversight, and accountable use of revenues to ensure that the benefits are fairly distributed to the residents of the mining areas.
