EU Supports Return of Nearly 500,000 Afghans in 2025 with UNHCR Assistance

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced that, with financial support from the European Union, the reception and assistance process for nearly 500,000 returnees in Afghanistan in 2025 is being supported.

According to information released by the agency, in addition to support for returnees, over 78,000 women and girls have been covered through protective interventions and support programs. These measures focus on reducing vulnerability and enhancing access to essential services.

It was also reported that more than 57,000 individuals across all 34 provinces of the country have been assessed through monitoring programs. The objective of these assessments is to identify urgent needs and strengthen community-based protection mechanisms.

In recent years, Afghanistan has witnessed large waves of migrant returns. International organizations have consistently emphasized that sustainable support for returnees and facilitating their reintegration into local communities are vital to preventing further humanitarian crises.
