Ninth Phase of Amu Darya Erosion Control Begins with 81 Million Afghanis Budget

The Taliban’s Department of Water and Energy has announced the completion of the project to reinforce the banks of the Amu Darya river in the Yetim Tappeh area of Dara-i-Qurq district in Takhar province, and simultaneously the commencement of a new phase. According to the ministry, the cost of implementing the eighth phase of this project was over 65 million Afghanis, and more than 81 million Afghanis has been allocated for the ninth phase.

According to the published statement, the eighth phase of the project was constructed over a length of one kilometer and a width of 22 meters, with funding provided by the Ministry of Water and Energy. This project aims to prevent bank erosion and control the threats arising from the Amu Darya river’s flooding.

Furthermore, the ninth phase of this plan, which spans 1,150 meters, is being financed by the same ministry’s development budget. The Amu Darya river is considered one of the most important water resources in northern Afghanistan, and in recent years, the erosion of its banks has caused concern among local residents.

Despite the announcement of the project’s completion, experts continually emphasize that transparency in the use of development funds and strict supervision of work quality are core responsibilities of the Taliban administration. This issue remains a key demand from citizens who seek greater accountability in many infrastructure projects.
