Afghanistan Marks Start of Ramadan with Calls for Peace and Unity

Today marks the first day of the holy month of Ramadan in Afghanistan and several other countries. Various institutions and prominent figures have issued messages congratulating the public on the arrival of this sacred month and emphasizing the need for unity and peace.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) described Ramadan in an official statement as an opportunity to strengthen social solidarity and promote a culture of peace. The mission called on all parties to utilize the spiritual atmosphere of this month to reduce tensions and pay greater attention to those in need.
At the same time, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) delegation announced that during Ramadan, it will continue to stand alongside Afghan families to ensure their access to essential services such as drinking water, energy, and health care. The organization also reiterated its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities facing natural crises.
Abdullah Abdullah, the former head of the National Reconciliation Council, expressed hope in a released message that this Ramadan would pave the way for positive change in the country, contributing to sustainable peace, security, and public welfare.
Meanwhile, the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior stated that security forces across the country are prepared to ensure the safety of those fasting. The ministry assured citizens that they can perform their religious rituals and daily activities in a safe environment—an assurance of particular importance given ongoing security concerns and existing restrictions, which have consistently been points of public attention and demand.
