Uzbekistan Official Meets Taliban Foreign Ministry Head to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

Javlon Vakhabov, Deputy Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan, during his visit to Kabul, met with Abdulhai Qanet, Head of the Strategic Studies Center at the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Uzbekistan–Afghanistan partnership. The meeting focused on advancing joint agendas and transforming broad goals into concrete actions.
On his X (formerly Twitter) page, Javlon Vakhabov wrote that he and Abdulhai Qanet also exchanged views on ways to raise public awareness about ongoing developments in both countries and across the region. According to him, these talks form part of efforts to enhance coordination on regional issues.
The Uzbek official added that both parties are interested in turning their long-term strategic objectives into practical and tangible initiatives—initiatives that can help strengthen regional stability and cooperation while serving the mutual interests of both countries.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has sought to maintain and expand its relations with Afghanistan, despite the Taliban administration continuing to face challenges regarding international legitimacy. Nevertheless, political and technical interactions between Kabul and Tashkent persist.
