Taliban Unveils New Uniforms for Commando and Border Forces

On Monday, February 16, 2026, the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense officially unveiled new uniforms for the commando forces, border troops, and what it refers to as the “National Islamic Army” in a formal ceremony attended by the administration’s military officials.

Qari Fasihuddin Fetra, the Taliban Armed Forces Chief of Staff, stated that the purpose of distributing these uniforms is to ensure order, discipline, and to create a unified identity among the forces. He said the new uniform symbolizes unity and solidarity, and those joining the ranks of the armed forces should consider defending the country their responsibility.

Meanwhile, Enayatullah Kharazmi, head of the Information and Strategic Communications at the Taliban Ministry of Defense, emphasized that every soldier must possess strong willpower and high-minded thinking and act decisively against the “enemies of the country.” He also stressed the importance of adhering to military principles and discipline by the forces.

The introduction of the new uniforms comes as the structure and composition of Afghanistan’s security forces have undergone extensive changes since the Taliban’s return to power. However, the Taliban administration has yet to provide clear details to the public regarding recruitment criteria, training, and oversight of these forces—an issue that has continually raised questions and concerns among segments of citizens and monitoring organizations.
