Central Asian Representatives Hold Emergency Meeting in Kazakhstan on Afghanistan

An emergency meeting of the Regional Contact Group of Central Asian Special Representatives on Afghanistan was held on Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. The meeting included representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The main focus of the discussions was to assess the current situation in Afghanistan and determine practical ways to engage with Kabul.

Participants also discussed expanding trade and economic relations with Afghanistan, developing transit corridors, and strengthening regional cooperation. Regional security and the consequences of Afghanistan’s developments for neighboring countries were other key topics of the meeting.

Central Asian countries emphasize practical engagement with Kabul despite the Taliban administration not yet being officially recognized by any country. However, some of Afghanistan’s neighbors are seeking to enhance regional stability through economic and transit cooperation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties stressed the importance of continuing regular coordination and consultations to support stability and sustainable development in Afghanistan—a goal deemed contingent upon establishing a responsive governance structure and ensuring comprehensive security within the country.
