Afghan Women Persist in Work Efforts Supported by UNDP Amid Restrictions

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has stated that women across various sectors in Afghanistan continue to strive to work and support their families’ livelihoods. Some of these women, with the support of UNDP and its partners, have managed to establish small businesses.

According to the organization, a number of women entrepreneurs have created new job opportunities and expanded their economic activities through supportive programs. Shabita, a female entrepreneur from Herat province, is among those who have been able to grow her business with this assistance and provide employment for others.

This comes at a time when, following the Taliban’s takeover, extensive restrictions have been imposed on women’s education, work, and social presence. These limitations have severely curtailed women’s access to the labor market and economic activities, raising widespread domestic and international concerns.

Despite these challenges, many women in cities and districts continue to seek ways to earn income and maintain their economic roles within their families and communities. International organizations emphasize that supporting women’s entrepreneurship can help reduce poverty and strengthen economic stability in the country.
