Mortar Shell Explosion in Bajaur Kills One, Injures Eight Including Women and Children

Local officials in Pakistan have reported that the explosion of an unexploded mortar shell in the Salarzo area of Bajaur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulted in the death of one man and injuries to eight others. Among the wounded are women and children.

According to Pakistani security officials, the incident occurred when several children found an unexploded shell outside a house and brought it inside to play with it. The shell detonated while the children were playing with it, resulting in the immediate death of the family’s father.

Authorities added that the injured were promptly taken to the nearest hospital, with the condition of several reported as critical.

This incident comes amid ongoing challenges in Pakistan’s tribal regions, where remnants of past conflicts and unexploded ordnance have repeatedly caused civilian casualties, especially among children. Experts continuously emphasize the urgent need to clear these areas of explosive materials to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
