Taliban Ministry of Industry Meets Traders to Control Prices During Ramadan

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Taliban administration announced that Nooruddin Azizi, the acting minister, met with officials from the Chamber of Traders and Artisans as well as representatives of trade unions to review the process of assessing and controlling the prices of raw materials during Ramadan.
According to the ministry’s newsletter, Azizi emphasized the importance of preventing price increases for food and essential items. He stated that prices had remained stable during Ramadan in previous years, and this year citizens should also be able to purchase their needed items without price hikes, just as in other months.
However, while the Taliban administration speaks of price stability, many residents of the country have complained in recent years about rising living costs and decreased purchasing power; an issue experts say requires transparent and continuous market monitoring.
Meanwhile, Sheerin Agha Sakhi, head of Afghanistan’s Chamber of Traders and Artisans, said that raw materials are sufficiently available in the markets and assured that there will be no price increases during Ramadan.
Ramadan is annually accompanied by increased demand for certain food items, making market oversight an important economic concern for families.
