Western Zone Officials Hold Coordination Meeting in Herat

A coordination meeting of officials from the western zone provinces of Afghanistan was held in Herat city, presided over by Sheikh Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the governor of Herat. The meeting included governors, police commanders, intelligence chiefs, and military court officials from the relevant provinces, who discussed the security, economic, social, and developmental situation of the zone.
The Herat governor’s press office stated that the main topics of the meeting included reviewing the general conditions of the provinces of Herat, Farah, Nimroz, Ghor, and Badghis, preventing drug trafficking and cultivation, and constructing religious schools for the children of returning refugees. The meeting also emphasized increased coordination among Taliban administration departments in these provinces.
Governor Islamjar called for full cooperation from local and security officials in implementing the orders of the Taliban leadership. He stressed that all departments must act in coordination in executing directives, a point that has often faced criticisms regarding the responsiveness and transparency of local decision-making processes.
Islamjar also referenced infrastructure projects in the western zone and emphasized planning to improve the livelihoods of residents and ensure balanced development. However, no specific details were provided about the funding or timelines of these projects.
Meanwhile, the governors of Farah, Nimroz, Ghor, and Badghis, along with security officials from these provinces, announced that they will increase joint cooperation to ensure security, prevent crimes, combat trafficking, and establish religious schools for the children of refugees. This comes amid serious economic challenges and a shortage of educational and social services faced by many returning families across different areas of the western zone.
