Taliban Agriculture Minister Criticizes Expulsion of Afghan Migrants from Neighboring Countries

Attaullah Omari, Taliban’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, has criticized the expulsion of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries, stating that these actions violate humanitarian principles and migrants’ rights.

On Wednesday, during a ceremony distributing aid to returning migrants in Panjshir province, Omari said that the host countries have deported Afghan citizens without considering human rights concerns. According to him, this process has added further pressure on the families who have returned.

Omari added that since the beginning of the migrant return process, more than 4.5 million migrants have returned to Afghanistan from various countries. However, he did not provide specific details about the host countries or the manner of these returns.

This widespread return of migrants is occurring while many returning families face economic challenges, a lack of job opportunities, and limited access to basic services. Despite this, the Taliban administration has yet to present a comprehensive and transparent plan for the sustainable accommodation and support of these migrants, and concerns about their living conditions remain.
