Taliban Representative Meets Etihad Officials to Launch Kabul-Abu Dhabi Flights

The Taliban administration’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates has met with a delegation from Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi to discuss the commencement of direct flights between Kabul and Abu Dhabi starting from March 28. During the meeting, flight schedules, transportation conveniences, and the logistics of air travel between the two cities were discussed.

According to a statement from the Afghan Embassy in the UAE, the meeting included Badruddin Haqqani and a delegation led by Raheel Sadiq. The main focus of the discussions was to establish practical arrangements for the regular operation of these flights.

Officials from Etihad said the airline currently flies to 99 cities worldwide. They stated that launching the Kabul-Abu Dhabi route could significantly enhance economic and trade relations between the two countries while providing increased connectivity for Afghanistan with other parts of the world—a development particularly important for Afghan businessmen and travelers in the current context.

Badruddin Haqqani welcomed the start of these flights and emphasized the provision of comprehensive facilities for passengers. He also called for special attention to lowering ticket prices and related travel costs—a request that could hold practical significance for citizens amid the country’s difficult economic conditions.

Experts believe that expanding international flights, alongside addressing banking and transit challenges, could alleviate some obstacles in Afghanistan’s travel and trade sectors. However, they note that sustaining this progress will depend on stable internal cooperation and effective governance within the country.
