Pakistani Envoy and UN Official Discuss Afghanistan’s Humanitarian and Security Situation

Muhammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, announced that he met and held talks with Andrika Ratawatte, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Humanitarian Coordinator for Afghanistan. According to him, the primary focus of the meeting was to review the humanitarian and security situation in Afghanistan. Sadiq wrote on the social media platform X on Wednesday that the two sides also exchanged views on expanding trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as on several regional issues. No further details of the discussions have been released. This meeting comes at a time when Afghanistan is facing a deepening humanitarian crisis and security challenges. The crisis has intensified since the Taliban administration took control of the country, with widespread restrictions on citizens’ rights and freedoms, particularly those of women, raising serious concerns within the international community. Pakistan, as one of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries and an influential actor in its developments, has consistently played a role in discussions related to border security, bilateral trade, and the situation of Afghan refugees, with diplomatic consultations ongoing in these areas.
