Mullah Baradar Says Official Engagement with Afghanistan Requires Time

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs in the Taliban administration, has stated that regional and global countries need official engagement with Afghanistan to expand exports and imports. He emphasized that this need can be effectively met only when relations are established within the framework of formal diplomatic ties between countries.

According to him, the global economy is based on interdependence among nations, and no country can achieve sustainable growth without trade with others. Baradar added that Afghanistan is also part of this economic cycle and must have a role in regional and international interactions.

These remarks come at a time when the Taliban administration, after regaining control over Afghanistan, is yet to be recognized by many countries, and official relations remain limited. Some experts believe that expanded sustainable engagement with the world requires practical measures in political, economic, and legal fields to build trust.

Due to its geographical location in the heart of Asia, Afghanistan has significant potential to connect regional markets; however, how the Taliban manages internally and the type of policies it pursues will play a decisive role in the extent and quality of these interactions.
