Taliban Ministry of Labor Meets with ILO to Discuss Worker Rights and Job Creation

The Taliban’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announced that Mawlawi Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzai, Deputy Minister of Labor, met with Tito Hiebakari, head of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Afghanistan, to discuss expanding labor cooperation, creating job opportunities, and protecting workers’ rights.
According to a statement from the ministry, both parties discussed strengthening technical relations, improving working conditions in various areas, and enhancing coordination for implementing labor market-related programs. In recent years, unemployment and the reduction of job opportunities have been serious challenges in the country, and both domestic and international organizations emphasize the need for practical action in this sector.
Mawlawi Ahmadzai stated that the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is striving to take effective and practical steps in the labor sector in coordination with partner organizations and within the framework of national and international standards. He also requested the ILO to expand its cooperation scope with the ministry in accordance with existing principles and regulations.
In response, the head of the ILO provided information on the organization’s activities and programs in Afghanistan, emphasizing ensuring workers’ rights, providing safe working conditions, and achieving social justice. He also acknowledged some recent efforts by the Ministry of Labor to improve working conditions and create employment.
At the end of the meeting, both sides emphasized continuing relations, regular coordination, and holding joint meetings. They agreed to take joint practical steps to strengthen cooperation, an effort that experts believe could effectively reduce some of the problems faced by workers and the unemployed if properly implemented.
